This is Kasey's cats page!

I love cats. I've had cats since I was a little girl. They are playful and soft and they purr and they sleep on your lap and don't mind if you leave them home while you're at work. My cats are my best friends.

I have three critters. Tasha is a 7-year-old gray, white and cream (sometimes called dilute calico) domestic longhair. I got her in May 1996 when she was 3 years old from the shelter run by the Maryland SPCA in Baltimore. I had

gone there looking for a kitten after one of my cats died. But the shelter had only grown cats. I looked around for a while, but kept coming back to Tasha. The staff report said she didn't like dogs or children (no problem, none of those at my house) and she was a lap cat. So I filled out the paperwork, paid the $45 fee and brought her home.

Tasha adjusted very quickly to her self-appointed role as queen of her new home. She is very feisty, and will try to bite or scratch me, but I've learned how to dodge her. She doesn't like to be brushed, which is tough for a longhair. But she always wants to be around me. She'll sit on my lap for a few minutes at a time, several times a day, and will sleep on my bed about once a week. She doesn't talk much, but is affectionate and interesting.

When Tasha arrived, I already had two elderly cats. Tasha tried to play with them, but they weren't interested. Those two died shortly after I got Tasha. It was clear that Tasha wanted a companion. So, in August 1996, I went to a cat show with the intention of getting a kitten. One breeder had an Oriental longhair kitten for sale. He was a 5-month-old male, with blue points and ivory fur and startling blue eyes. He had a pointy head and had quite a lot to say. I held him and he purred. So I bought him and named him Mambo, after a character in my favorite cartoon, "Duckman."

Mambo adjusted slowly to his new home. He spent his first several days cowering under my bed. Now he's a happy, loving kitty, and he and Tasha are great pals. They wrestle and play hide-and-seek and tag. Mambo loves to bat wadded-up paper all over the floor and will even fetch, after a fashion.

Mambo is a most affectionate cat. He will sleep for hours on my lap while I watch TV and sleeps on my bed nearly every night. He loves to be petted and brushed, and loves people. He's not as vocal as many Siamese cats, but if he wants something, he'll tell me! He is also very sweet-tempered. He never scratches or bites, he loves to be held and carried and is a favorite at the vet, Cat Hospital at Towson.

A year later, in August 1997, I got another cat from the same breeder. Rudy is 10 years old and is a retired stud. He is a red-ticked tabby Siamese. He is a lap cat, and he and Mambo curl up on my lap all the time. Rudy has quite a lot to say. Tasha doesn't like him, though, and bops him all the time.
